KATERINA ¦EDÁ
THIS IS NOT A CZECH PAVILION

Through the processes of research and correspondence, Kateřina ¦edá and I discovered a series of mirror relations to reflect our completely opposite positions: we are situated outside of each other’s arenas while attempting to become the centers. The only possible path opened for communication was to exchange our perceptions and positions by becoming both mirrors for each other and the other itself in this mirrored image. This ongoing topological relation became the conceptual departure point of the project This is not a Czech Pavilion, in which we attempt to create possibilities and develop actions to overturn the relations of people and sites in the contexts of Taiwan, the Czech Republic, the Taiwan Pavilion, the Czech Pavilion, the Venice Biennale, and so on. BATE´O MIKILU is a group of six high school students who invited ¦edá to transform their village of Zastávka (which literally means “stop” in Czech), a dysfunctional industrial town without any center. This collaboration model of 6-1-1 experiments with becoming strangers and the dynamics of inward-outward relations to question the contemporary art system and the social relations generated by capitalism in booming and vanishing towns around the world.
